About the Instructor

Mrs. Raetz has performed with church, community, and professional handbell ensembles since 1996, and directed the handbell choir at Purcellville Baptist Church. She has attended and taught at handbell conferences, and served a two year term on the Area XII Board of the Handbell Guild. In certain circles she is known as “the handbell poet”! Some of you may know her as the founding chair for the Parent Board of the Youth Music Academy at Patrick Henry College. Mrs. Raetz is a homeschool mom who graduated three children of her own and has been a music and literature teacher/tutor and more recently a cognitive trainer in various homeschool communities for the last 20 years. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from San Jose State University.

Mrs. Raetz’s experience in cognitive training will be combined with basic music theory to promote student gains in memory, attention, focus, auditory/visual processing, coordination, and executive function, all while having fun! No musical experience necessary. Students will learn to read music, perform as a team, and participate in worship and/or outreach as opportunity offers.
